Independant Entertainment news is reporting that Angelina Jolie has been approached to star in the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" set to be directed by Scott Derrickson:

Angelina Jolie has been offered the lead role in "The Day The Earth Stood Still;" and the remake is currently out to Scott Derrickson to direct.

Derrickson is not a stranger to genre films considering his past work on films such as Hellraiser: Inferno, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and The Visitation. We would assume that Derrickson would not only direct but also write the screenplay.

Angelina Jolie is also no stranger to genre filmmaking and with the political overtone that the “The Day the Earth Stood Still” would have in this day and age it would make a perfect match for the politically aware actor.

Calls and emails to the studio, talent managers and agents for comment have not been responded to by the time this article was published.
